A few months ago, I had someone sit across from me who said:

“I thought I picked a good Medicare plan… but something feels off.”

Nothing dramatic had happened.

No huge hospital bill.
No major diagnosis.

Just little things stacking up…

• A doctor they liked wasn’t in-network anymore
• Referrals taking longer than expected
• Coverage not working the way they thought

And that’s when it hit them:

👉 “I don’t actually understand what I signed up for.”

This Isn’t Just One Person… It’s a Trend

A recent survey showed something interesting:

A large number of people on Medicare Advantage plans end up switching.

Not because they love shopping for insurance…
But because their plan didn’t work the way they expected.

Some of the biggest complaints?

• Network restrictions
• Prior authorizations
• Unexpected out-of-pocket costs
• Coverage changing year to year

None of this shows up clearly when you’re first enrolling.

And Locally… This Matters Even More Right Now

Here in Champaign, we just had something happen that doesn’t get talked about enough:

👉 Health Alliance exited the Medicare Advantage market for 2026

A lot of people liked those plans.
A lot of people got comfortable with them.

Now?

They’re being forced to pick something new… whether they want to or not.

And when that happens, most people do what they always do:

They pick something quickly…
Hope it works…
And move on.

That’s Where Problems Start

Medicare decisions aren’t usually “wrong” right away.

They become wrong later.

When:
• You need a specific doctor
• You need a specific procedure
• Or your health situation changes

That’s when the fine print shows up.

The Bigger Lesson

The goal isn’t to find a “perfect” Medicare plan.

👉 The goal is to understand how the plan actually works before you need it

Because once you’re using it…
That’s not the time to figure it out.

If You’re Dealing With This Right Now

If you had Health Alliance… or you’re just not sure about your current plan…

This is a good time to take a second look.

Not to switch blindly.

But to actually understand:

• What you have
• What’s changed
• And what your options really are

If you want help walking through it, you can schedule a quick Medicare review here.

Talk soon.
